Meghan and Harry’s former friends David and Victoria Beckham are proving to be more popular than the royal pair, as the feud between the two couples continues.
New figures released by Netflix show that the Beckham’s eponymous documentary hit the top spot for global viewing with a staggering 43.9million views between July and December 2023.
In contrast, the Sussexes’ docuseries, Harry & Meghan, released in December 2022 on the same streaming platform, has slumped to 211st place on the viewing figures list.
When it was first released, the six-part series, which released bombshell claims about the Royal Family, was a hit and gave Netflix its biggest debut with 81.6million hours watched in just the first four days.
However, the buzz has officially worn off, and the show now stands at a measly 211 on the global performance charts. In comparison, the Beckham’s show has 3.5 times the viewing figures with 208.5million hours viewed in the first two months.
The friendship between the two A-lister couples has soured over the last few years. Previously close, the Beckhams attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.
However, David was left “absolutely furious” after he and wife Victoria were allegedly accused by the Sussexes of leaking stories, with reports suggesting that their relationship was now “over”.
A source told The Daily Mail: “Any making up now is so unlikely.”
Lizzie Cundy, a former friend of Meghan, also claimed that the Beckhams have slowly distanced themselves from the Sussexes.
Cundy said: “I think Victoria and David have slowly tiptoed away like the other friends.
“Many friends who went to the wedding have tiptoed away from Meghan.”
Despite the blow to their rivals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not shying away from the streaming giant, as they are planning to launch two new shows as part of the contract they signed with Netflix in 2020.
The first series will see the Duchess of Sussex celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship. It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation.
