As you all know, there has been a lot of headlines and buzz in the international media about Prince Harry and his American wife, Meghan Markle, moving to Ghana. President Nana Akufo-Addo has gotten wind of this nonsense and decided to put an end to it once and for all.
As you may know, ever since Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior royal duties in the UK, they have been hinting that they want to live in Africa. Many thought it was just speculation and publicity stunts to promote their brand and appeal to their woke Hollywood friends.
However, it seems they were actually seriously considering Ghana as one of their potential landing spots. Can you believe the audacity? Two foreigners who don’t know the first thing about our culture and way of life thinking they can just waltz in and take over because Ghana is a former British colony.
Clearly, they didn’t do their homework on our no-nonsense President Nana Akufo-Addo. During one of his recent press conferences, a journalist asked President Akufo-Addo for his thoughts on the rumors that Prince Harry and Meghan were exploring the possibility of relocating to Ghana.
Let me tell you, the president did not hold back in setting the record straight. He started off by praising the special relationship Ghana has always had with the British royal family over the years. However, he made it crystal clear that when it comes to Harry and Meghan, they are not welcome.
President Akufo-Addo said while Ghana has always welcomed foreigners and celebrated its past ties with the British Monarchy, the country will not tolerate traitors who lack respect and loyalty. Harry and Meghan have shamefully disrespected the Queen and the royal family by abandoning their duties for fame and money in Hollywood.
They wish to have their cake and eat it too by retaining royal titles and privileges while actively trying to undermine the institution for profit. This is unacceptable to us. We are a proud nation that does not give platforms to hypocrites and opportunists trying to exploit us.
The president continued, saying Ghana’s sovereignty and image will not be exploited by narcissists seeking validation. We value duty, service, and integrity, which these two have thrown out the window.
Make no mistake, Ghana is not a country for hire by celebrities. If they wish to live here, they must commit to our values of respect, culture, and community, not fame and fortune. Otherwise, they are better off staying in America, where their brand of fake royalty and arrogance is celebrated. There will be no red carpet for traitors in Ghana.
You could tell from President Akufo-Addo’s tone that he was not here to play games about this issue. He sounded deeply offended at the mere suggestion that Ghana could be used as Meghan and Harry’s African playground just because we’re an English-speaking nation. And let me tell you, the Ghanaian people could not agree more with our leader.
As soon as the president’s comments went viral, Ghanaians flooded social media expressing their overwhelming support. One tweet that got tens of thousands of likes said, “Our president spoke for the motherland. We don’t need no colonizers’ grandchildren disrespecting the memory of our heroes who fought for independence.”
Another person commented, “These foreign royals think they can just come and lecture Africans because we’re a developing nation. Maybe in America, people celebrate their fake wokeness, but over here we prioritize culture, community, and respecting our elders. They best stay far away.”
The comment sections of online articles were also blowing up with praise for Nana Akufo-Addo for protecting Ghana’s image and boundaries. It’s clear the mood of the country has shifted from initial curiosity about Meghan and Harry living here to outright rejection of their disloyal agenda.
You may be wondering what the response from Prince Harry and Meghan’s PR team was to all this backlash. Well, to no one’s surprise, they rolled out the victim card once again.
One of their mouthpieces was quoted in an American magazine saying the president’s harsh words were deeply hurtful and offensive. After experiencing racism in the UK, Harry and Meghan just want to live freely as a multicultural family in a place that celebrates diversity.
They merely inquired about Ghana privately as any citizen can. It’s unfortunate their kindness was turned into something negative.
Their US celebrity friends like Ellen DeGeneres and Priyanka Chopra also jumped in to defend the poor, mistreated couple on social media. But let me remind you, this is not Montecito, California.
Here in Ghana, we see right through such fake crocodile tears and PR strategies. Playing the race card will not work on us because we understand the real issues at hand here: a severe lack of loyalty, respect, and appreciation for culture.
President Nana Akufo-Addo was only speaking for the majority of Ghanaians who will not be gaslit by the Sussexes’ manipulation tactics.
