In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, made the significant decision to step down from their roles as senior members of the royal family. This move, marked by a series of revelations about their experiences within the palace, notably strained their relationship with the rest of the royal establishment.
Since then, reports suggest a growing emotional distance between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William. While Harry is said to be deeply saddened by this separation, Meghan Markle appears to have shifted her focus away from her time in the royal family, according to insights from a royal expert.
Royal author Tom Quinn, in an exclusive conversation with The Mirror, remarked on Meghan’s apparent move beyond the drama surrounding the royal family. Quinn noted, “Meghan appears to have moved on to some extent but then she was only part of the Royal Family for a relatively short time and she has far more to focus on in the States than her husband has.”
Following their departure from royal duties, Harry and Meghan relocated to Montecito, California, where Meghan is reportedly the primary driver behind their commercial ventures in the United States. Quinn added, “She’s the main driver for their commercial enterprises in the States, where, having taken the dog for a walk each morning, Harry has a little to do beyond brooding over the past.”
Despite the physical distance, Prince Harry has made efforts to mend his strained ties with the royal family. He visited the UK in February to meet with his father, King Charles, after the monarch’s cancer diagnosis, engaging in a half-hour conversation. However, a subsequent trip to London did not result in a reunion with his brother, Prince William.
Tom Quinn previously shared with The Mirror Harry’s deep distress over the estrangement from William, especially concerning the relationship between their children—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet—and their royal cousins. Quinn explained, “We know that Harry’s deepest upset concerns not just his lack of relationship with George, Charlotte and Louis, but also his own children’s lack of a relationship with their cousins.”
He continued, “Harry and Meghan would love to get round the problem – they would love it if the cousins could meet regularly and have a positive relationship as they grow up, but they cannot see a way to do it while they themselves, Harry and Meghan, are estranged. Harry has said that he hopes the cousins can at least be friends as adults.”
