It seems Prince William’s famous follicular challenges have become fair game for his nearest and dearest – including his own wife, the Duchess of Cambridge herself. During the royal couple’s official tour of Australia back in 2014, Kate Middleton couldn’t resist a playful quip about her husband’s receding hairline while the pair observed a sheep-shearing demonstration at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

According to the farmer overseeing the exhibit, Kate turned to William and cheekily remarked, “You need it more than me,” gesturing towards the freshly shorn alpaca. Ever the good sport, the future King reportedly laughed off his wife’s cheeky jibe.

This wasn’t the first time Kate had poked a bit of fun at William’s balding pate – it’s said she even has a lighthearted nickname for him, sweetly dubbing him “Prince Baldy.” And Kate isn’t the only one to tease the Prince about his thinning thatch. His cousin-in-law Mike Tindall has been known to call him “One Pint Willy” for his comparatively modest alcohol tolerance.

Even Prince Harry has weighed in on the matter, with the Duke of Sussex devoting an entire passage in his tell-all memoir Spare to his brother’s “alarming baldness” and fading resemblance to their mother. But unlike the affectionate ribbing from Kate, Harry’s commentary had a decidedly more acerbic tone.

Still, it seems the future King can take a good-natured joke – even about his famous family resemblance fading with time. After all, what are a few follicular foibles between loving spouses?
