King Charles is reportedly at his wit’s end, desperate to mend fences with Prince Harry who remains unyielding, according to a royal expert.
The father and son have been embroiled in a bitter feud for years. The rift deepened when Harry and his wife Meghan Markle chose to step down from Royal duties and relocate to the US, before revealing shocking details about their life within the palace walls.
In his debut memoir Spare, Harry criticised his father, accusing him of struggling with communication, listening, and intimacy. This has left their relationship in tatters, and royal author Tom Quinn believes the King has reached his limit.
In a chat with The Mirror, Tom revealed: “Charles feels he has made a huge effort to repair his relationship with his son, but that Harry refuses to budge. With this in mind, Charles is changing his approach.”
“The new strategy is to take a tougher stance with Harry; shifting from good cop to bad cop. However, palace insiders agree that Charles is at the end of his tether. He yearns for reconciliation with his son, but nothing seems to work.”
The royal commentator has hinted that the root of the issue may be traced back to Prince Harry’s younger years. He commented: “One underlying problem is that Harry was never really that close to his father as a child looked after by staff and shunted between Diana and Charles, Harry has always looked lost and forgotten and it’s too late now for his father to do anything about it.”
Despite hopes from royal enthusiasts for a reconciliation during Prince Harry’s recent visit to the UK, there was no meeting between him and King Charles. A representative for Harry explained at the time: “It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
Two years on from the incident, there seems to be little progress in mending the rift between the two brothers since they celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign.
Their grandmother’s passing a few months later brought them together again under more somber circumstances. However, the release of Harry and Meghan’s six-part Netflix documentary, seemed to widen the gap between the brothers.
Following the news of Kate Middleton’s cancer treatment, reports suggest that Harry and Meghan have privately “reached out” to the Wales family, additionally sending a public message expressing their support for Kate as she asks for privacy during her treatment and recovery.
However, during Harry’s recent UK visit marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, the brothers did not meet, leaving speculation about their future relationship unresolved.
