A writer sent her book about pet grief to Queen Camilla to comfort her after she lost her dog in November 2024 —and was blown away by the personal response she received from the palace.
Amulya Veldanda Vadali, 28, from New Jersey, wrote the heartwarming tale I’ll Be Your Friend Forever after her beloved golden retriever, Cosmo, passed away in 2023.
When she heard of the passing of companion, rescue dog called Beth, she decided to send a copy of her book to Buckingham Palace in the hope of offering comfort. She later shared the touching exchange on , through her handle avvcosmo2, where it garnered 5,300 upvotes.
“Queen Camilla is an advocate for both pet welfare and children’s literature. So when I saw a news article that mentioned the queen had recently lost her beloved pup, Beth, I knew I wanted to send her a copy of my book along with a letter expressing my condolences,” Vadali told Regalrumination.com.
After finding her mailing details online Vadali sent the book with a brief message: “Your Majesty, some friendships last forever. My deepest condolences on the passing of your pup, Beth. Best wishes, Amulya Veldanda Vadali.”
The book aims to help families navigate the heartache of losing a furry companion. Told from the perspective of a pet who has crossed over the rainbow bridge, the illustrated storybook celebrates happy memories while acknowledging grief, hope and strength for the future. Since its publication in July 2024, it has won a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award.
Two weeks after mailing the book, Vadali and her husband were overcome with excitement when they received an envelope bearing the seal.
“At that point, we still thought it must be a generic response, but we were excited that we received anything at all. We carefully opened the envelope and both screamed loudly when we saw that there was a beautiful card inside with a handwritten acknowledgment from the Queen herself!

“She had personally signed it and added a sweet message at the bottom of the card thanking me for my ‘very helpful book.’ We flipped the card over and screamed some more when we saw the picture of Queen Camilla and her pup, Beth.”
The full letter read: “Dear Amulya, Many thanks for your heartfelt words about my dear Beth. She was a wonderful companion to me for 13 happy years and I will miss her every day. With best wishes, Camilla/ Thank you for your very helpful book.”
The couple immediately FaceTimed their family to share the news, who were all “super excited and touched.”

They plan to frame the card and display it proudly.
“What a wonderful keepsake to show future generations,” she added.
Redditors were equally thrilled by the response and shared their reactions.
“A signed card from the Queen herself? Now that’s what I call an unexpected honor,” said LovelyJazmin.
“That’s amazing! What a special acknowledgment for your kindness,” said another user.
“We all get Royal Mail post, but this really is ROYAL mail!,” said Bert, referring to the U.K.’s national postal service. “We don’t get the King’s cypher or ‘Buckingham Palace’ stamp on all post, so they certainly are special!”
Regalrumination.com reached out to Buckingham Palace who said they do not comment on personal correspondence.
