Piers Morgan has yet again slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But where does his dislike of the royal couple stem from?
More than three years have passed since Piers Morgan sensationally – and dramatically – bowed out of presenting Good Morning Britain, after his comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah Winfrey interview sparked an Ofcom furore.
Well, whilst plenty has changed since the doomsday of March 2021, one thing that has remained constant is Piers Morgan’s unsparing tirades about the Sussexes, both in the media and via social media. His most recent slam directed at Harry and Meghan happened last month in May whilst the pair were in Nigeria promoting The Invictus Games.
Speaking on Extra TV Piers said, ‘You know my position about these two. They can do what they like, but I don’t like them doing it as an unofficial renegade royal family. And the truth is the real royal family back here in England are going through an awful lot of turmoil.’
By turmoil, Piers Morgan is obviously referring to King Charles’ and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnoses which came in January.
Of course, Piers’ obsession with Meghan Markle didn’t just start last month. Who could ever forget his infamous storm out of the studio, following a heated exchange of words with fellow presenter Alex Beresford over the Duchess? After Piers had taken his hate campaign against the couple to new extremes – by proclaiming he ‘did not believe a word’ of Meghan’s claims in their Oprah interview, including her struggles with mental health – Alex duly noted, ‘I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has. But yet you continue to trash her.’
And last year, the former royals’ bombshell Netflix documentary and Harry’s history-making memoir Spare also became a gateway for Piers to launch a fresh load of scathing attacks – although an excuse is not often required. He savagely branded the first three episodes of their docuseries ‘worse than Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ and as for the Prince’s tome, Piers was less than constructive.
‘Rather than buy it and feather [Harry’s] greedy little nest, do what I’m going to do right now. Take Spare and chuck it where it belongs, in the bin.’
Plus, you wouldn’t have to scroll far to find Meghan Markle’s name laced amongst Piers’ tweets.
In June for example, he was behind a sarcastic message about being ‘distraught’ over the cancellation of her podcast Archetypes.
