One of best friends has joined her on an exclusive list and is very close to tying her personal record.
On Friday, March 21, confirmed that album Short n’ Sweet currently has four Pop Airplay No. 1s, marking the first time an artist crossed that threshold since Swift’s 1989 album back in 2014-2015.
The four singles on Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet album that earned her spot on the coveted list are “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Bed Chem.” The album was released in August 2024.

A decade ago, Swift had five Pop Airplay No. 1s from 1989, and they were “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Bad Blood” (feat. Kendrick Lamar), and “Wildest Dreams.”
“The Pop Airplay chart ranks songs by weekly plays on more than 150 mainstream top 40 radio stations monitored by Mediabase, with data provided to Billboard by Luminate,” Billboard explains.
As for whether or not this will cause any kind of rift between the pals, it’s highly unlikely. In fact, Carpenter has spoken out about how supportive Swift has been of her career.
Carpenter, who opened for Swift on the Eras Tour in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore, spoke to about how close she is with the singer.
“She’s one of my best, best friends, and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend,” Carpenter told the outlet in an interview published in August 2024.
“It’s so cool for me to get a perspective on this whole process from her and the community of artists that I feel I’m close to — to get advice from them on stuff that you can’t just ask the internet. We’re always playing each other our [music], and whenever I start to think, ‘Maybe I’ll get on and say something about this,’ I’m always like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song instead,'” she added.
Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, which originated in 1992, has credited Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake with similar successes as Carpenter and Swift. Perry had six No. 1 singles off of Teenage Dream, which is the current record. Lady Gaga and Timberlake are in a three-way tie with Carpenter, with four singles a piece off of The Fame and FutureSex/LoveSounds respectively.
