Swift literally rocked Lisbon, with the star’s show in the city registering on the Richter scale.
The “Bad Blood” singer performed two Eras Tour shows in Lisbon on May 24 and May 25, 2024, and afterward, it was reported that the massive concerts at Estádio da Luz triggered seismic activity. It was enough that it actually registered on the Richter scale, which is used to measure the strength of earthquakes.
According to Fortune, seismic activity extended to as far as six kilometers (approximately 3.7 miles) from the stadium and reached 0.82 on the scale, peaking during the song “Shake It Off,” which often gets the crowd up and jumping around.
Cultura Colectiva, a Mexico-based digital media publisher, reported in late May “that the oscillations produced by the Swifties were recorded by at least nine seismic stations located in different parts of Lisbon.”
It wasn’t the first time it had happened on the tour. Swift’s two shows in Seattle in July 2023 also generated seismic activity equivalent to an earthquake. The noise and movement of her shows at Lumen Field caused such activity that it registered as if it was a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, which ended up being dubbed the “Swift Quake.”
The noise and dancing at one of the chart-topper’s Los Angeles shows also caused seismic activity, with vibrations picked up as she played at the SoFi Stadium.
Swift’s Eras Tour dates in Lisbon were her first ever in Portugal.
“When I first walked out on this stage, when I first appeared at the beginning of the show, and I looked out and saw this crowd, you took my breath away,” she said as she stepped out on stage at the Estádio da Luz. “My heart was beating so fast. You just made me feel so lucky to be here with you tonight. Thank you so much for coming to this show.”
