Queen Elizabeth II gave Meghan Markle a ‘dressing down’ after she made a remark about food prepared by staff, a Royal author claimed. The incident allegedly occurred in 2018 in the lead up to Meghan’s Royal wedding to Prince Harry.

Royal author Katie Nicholl alleged that Meghan, 42, had been left unimpressed after taste-testing some food that was going to be served at the wedding reception. The Duchess of Sussex is said to have “got very upset” after saying she “felt that she could taste egg” in one of the dishes.

Katie told Yahoo’s Royal Box that Meghan was informed there was no egg in the dish, yet she was unconvinced. The Duchess allegedly hit back: “No, I can taste it.”

“Meghan got very upset when she felt that she could taste egg in a dish when she was told there was no egg in there, and she said, ‘No, I can taste it, I can taste there’s egg in this dish,'” Nicholl wrote.

Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022, then walked into the room at Windsor Castle and “quietly took Meghan to the side”. The late monarch allegedly told Meghan that “the Royal Family does not speak to people like that”.

“I think there was a bit of an upset when suddenly the Queen walked in, because of course, this was Windsor Castle, this is her home,” Katie said. “And she just quietly took Meghan to the side and said, ‘Meghan, in this family we don’t speak to people like that.”

Rumours concerning Meghan’s interactions with staff previous surfaced after her former communications secretary, Jason Knauf, accused her of bullying. Meghan and her representatives have consistently denied all such allegations, with them previously being described as a “calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation”.

A spokesperson for Meghan at the time said of the allegations: “Let’s just call this what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet.”

Meghan and Harry stepped down from their roles as senior royals in March 2020 and relocated to the US soon after. They now reside in California with their two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two.

Meghan has only returned to the UK on a few occasions since moving back to the US, including Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Harry has been back on several occasions for Royal events and family issues.
