ABOUT THE POSITIONThere are two positions available. One will focus on the restaurant and one will focus on box lunches/café prep/food security.This position supports FareStart students as they work toward achieving their self-identified goals for personal stability and economic mobility, using a person-centered approach. Using a trauma-informed approach this position trains students in building the skills they need to be successful in employment and life, through virtual, in-person classroom, on-the-job instruction, teaching empowerment, and the fundamental technical skills and knowledge need to work in food businesses. This position works closely with kitchen leaders and case managers to identify and address behaviors that may stand in the way of a student achieving their goals.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide instruction to students through virtual, on-site classroom, and on-the-job training.
- Teach hands-on fundamental technical skills and knowledge needed for working in food businesses, such as knife skills and safety, sanitation, stacking order, food safety, portioning, recipe adherence, teamwork, following directions, sense of urgency, attendance, etc., in both a group and individual setting.
- Responsible for organization and cleanliness of classrooms and training kitchen.
- Provide students ongoing coaching and feedback to support them in their skill development and achieving their goals.
- Make recommendations for and support the development of adjustments to the new and existing curriculum to increase student skill-building.
- Perform hands-on support of meal production.
- Build trusting, positive, communicative work relationships with kitchen leadership and case managers to support students and address areas of concern.
- Identify and provide emergency crisis intervention for students as warranted.
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of student data and completion of paperwork to meet all organizational and funder requirements.
- Actively participate in meetings for student support, program development, organizational information, training, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree in related field, and two (2) or more years of related experience working in a high-volume production commercial kitchen; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) or more years of experience in employment and/or job training program.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, and gender backgrounds.
- Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
- Possess a strong understanding of overarching workplace skills that support successful employment.
- Possess excellent communication skills, and ability to work with diverse audiences racially, ethnically, socioeconomically, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse communities.
- Ability to hold students to a high level of personal responsibility and accountability using trauma informed practices.
- Ability to provide a positive environment and manage behaviors that can disrupt learning.
- Knowledge of, and experience using a variety of teaching methods.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive to change; able to make adjustments in a positive manner.
