And at least one royal reacted badly as William let slip in November that cried when he first grew one.

Jason Knauf, who spent seven years working for the couple before becoming a trustee of William’s Earthshot Prize, also let slip Kate’s feelings about her husband’s facial hair.
“One more question, William’s beard, does Catherine like it?” Knauf was asked on 60 Minutes Australia.
“If she didn’t like it, it wouldn’t be there I can tell you that,” Knauf replied.

Beards were at one stage a part of the conflict opposing William and Kate to Harry and Meghan, after Harry wrote in his book Spare that his brother was jealous of his.

Prince William said in November: “Well Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second, and I convinced her it was going to be okay.”
Harry described in Spare how they had arguments panning a week about Harry’s plan to wear a beard on his wedding day: “At one point he actually ordered me, as the Heir speaking to the Spare, to shave.”
“‘I’m telling you, shave it off,” William said. Harry replied: “For the love of God, Willy, why does this matter so much to you?”
William said: “Because I wasn’t allowed to keep my beard.”
