Princess Kate’s “calming” response to a fan went viral on TikTok after the man told her: “I’m a little bit autistic, I’m really nervous.”
The Princess of Wales was visiting Kirkgate Market in Leeds, in the north of England, on January 31, 2023, when a man called out to her.
A clip of the moment has resurfaced on showing him shouting “Can I get a selfie?” before Kate replied: “Yes, very quickly.”
“I’m a little bit autistic, I’m really nervous,” he added. Kate said: “Please don’t worry, it’s OK. We all get nervous.”
was liked 37,000 times and viewed 268,000 times after being posted with the message: “Happy birthday to the strongest princess who has showed that she is human just like us.”
Why It Matters
The video goes on to show several other clips to demonstrate that Kate has also had her nervous moments.
One reply read: “I remember her first official speech. She was very nervous but pulled it off magnificently.”
Her interaction with the fan appears to suggest she has come away with empathy for others who also get nervous in public.
What to Know
Kate was in Leeds to promote her Shaping Us campaign, which focuses on early years care for children before they reach elementary school.
It is not uncommon for royal family members to chat with fans who turn out in public to speak to them but Kate appeared to make a special effort to ease the nerves of the man in Leeds.
And after posing for a selfie she wrapped up the conversation by saying: “Well done, nice to meet you. Take care.”
What People Are Saying
One comment on the footage read, “her accent is so calming,” while another fan said: “She treats people with such kindness.”
“‘Please don’t worry’ I’m gone. ðŸ˜,” a third post read.
What Happens Next
Kate is currently taking time out of royal visits in keeping with the family’s tradition of winding down in January but will likely be back out in public in the weeks to come.
She has not yet returned to work full-time following months of chemotherapy treatment following a cancer diagnosis in early 2024, but has indicated fans may see more of her in 2025 than they did last year.
