Princess Kate will be supported by the royals at her annual Christmas carol service following a year in which she endured chemotherapy, Kensington Palace announced.
The Princess of Wales revealed in March that “cancer had been present” in her body prior to abdominal surgery in January.
And in late February she began a course of chemotherapy, announcing in September that it had concluded and she is now focusing on staying “cancer free.”
However, Kate will close out the nightmare year with a celebration and the royals at her side for the “Together at Christmas” annual carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
The event was at one stage in doubt while Kate was out of the public eye, but her attendance has been expected since September when she announced the conclusion of her treatment.
A Kensington Palace press release stated: “The Princess of Wales will host her fourth ‘Together at Christmas’ Carol Service at Westminster Abbey on Friday 6th December.
“This year’s service provides a moment to reflect upon the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives.”
“Westminster Abbey will be filled with 1,600 people who have supported others in their communities,” the palace release continued, “whether on a personal level with friends and family, through their work or as they selflessly give up their time through volunteering.
“These guests will be joined by Members of The and recognisable faces who in their own ways have shown how love can help others thrive.”
For the past two years, the carol service has offered the royals a chance to stand together during periods of controversy and scandal.
In December 2022, Kate and the royals stepped out together on the same day as the final part of and ‘s series, which raked over past allegations against the royals.
And last year, it came shortly after was accidentally named as the royal who commented on ‘s skin tone in the Dutch language edition of royal book Endgame, by .
Meghan told in 2021 how an unnamed royal had “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
suggested Charles had made the comment while Kate had been present at the time. The king, according to the book, wrote Meghan a letter after the tell-all interview was broadcast on in which he said there was no malicious intent behind the question.
This year though, the main backdrop to the carol service will be the health problems have dogged both Princess Kate and Charles’ 2024.
Even this past week, Queen Camilla has had to pull out of royal engagements owing to a chest infection that staff had hoped would clear up in time for Remembrance Sunday, on November 10.
The queen canceled her attendance at The Cenotaph, alongside other events last week, and will also miss the Gladiator II premiere this week.
