Princess Kate’s brother, James Middleton, has given a rare update on the royal’s cancer journey following her announcement earlier this month that she had
Middleton spoke to anchor Kelly Cobiella in a special report for the Today show which aired on Thursday, the same day that his memoir hit the shelves.
Middleton gained international attention in 2011 when he gave a reading at older sister Kate’s royal wedding to , in front of an estimated global audience of over 1 billion people.
In the years that followed, Middleton has become a regular fixture at high profile events, notably being present at the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla in 2023.
When Kate in March this year, Middleton posted a supportive message to social media reading: “Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too.”
In his Today interview, the first-time author was asked how his sister was feeling.
“She’s doing OK,” he said. “It’s not for me to share on her behalf how everything is going, but she’s getting all the right support and focus that she needs.”
Concluding the update he added: “Like anything, it takes time to process.”

Kate’s cancer journey has been closely followed since she stepped out of the public eye in January to undergo abdominal surgery before her health announcement was made.
In June, the princess made her first official appearance at the , before attending the Wimbledon men’s tennis final in July.
On September 9, the royal issued a new health update, revealing that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment and was now focused on staying “cancer free.”
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said.
“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
On Thursday, the royal revealed that she had attended a ballet performance in London, and she has undertaken two private meetings which appeared in the court circular—the official register of royal engagements—so far this month.
