Recently, Prince William and David Beckham were spotted sharing a private moment while inspecting two London air ambulances funded by the fundraising efforts at RAF Northolt in West London. While the exact nature of their amusement remains a mystery, many speculate whether it might have been a light-hearted joke about Prince Harry, who could be concerned about his fading relationship with Beckham. 

Once close friends, David and his wife Victoria were present at Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018, but in the years since, the Beckhams have noticeably distanced themselves from the Sussexes.

The relationship between the two couples initially began on a high note, particularly in the lead-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding. In a generous gesture, the Beckhams offered their luxurious six-bedroom villa in Los Angeles to Meghan, who was then dealing with intense media scrutiny. 

This Italian-style villa served as a sanctuary for Meghan, where she received support from the Beckham staff during a difficult time. Victoria, whose fashion brand was expanding at the time, also provided Meghan with beauty advice, including makeup tips and assistance with hair styling.

However, things took a turn when news of the Beckhams’ generosity reached the press. Meghan reportedly felt betrayed, believing that David and Victoria had leaked information about their support. This incident led to growing distrust between the Sussexes and the Beckhams. 

Despite attending Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony, the Beckhams were notably absent from the exclusive evening reception, a snub that raised eyebrows, especially considering that several celebrities, who were merely acquaintances of the Sussexes, were in attendance.

Later, David agreed to travel to Australia at Harry’s request to support the Invictus Games. Despite his efforts, Beckham was left disappointed when Harry, reportedly influenced by Meghan, refused to be photographed with him. 

According to renowned biographer Tom Bower, Meghan wanted to avoid any media spotlight that could compete with her own image, particularly when it came to the games. 

This cooling of relations is especially notable given David Beckham’s long-standing admiration for the royal family. The former football star has demonstrated his loyalty to the monarchy through various actions, such as dressing in his finest attire for the Queen’s Christmas Day speech. 

He even queued for 12 hours to pay his respects when Queen Elizabeth lay in state. Given this, it’s unsurprising that the Sussexes’ ongoing critiques of the royal family did not sit well with the Beckhams.

A source close to the Beckhams shared that both David and Victoria place great importance on family and would never turn on their relatives in the way Harry and Meghan have. This statement highlights a fundamental difference in values between the two couples. 

While the Sussexes have been vocal about their grievances with royal life, the Beckhams have remained supportive of the monarchy. In fact, the source revealed that Victoria never held Meghan in particularly high regard. Although she was friendly and welcoming at first, Victoria showed little interest in continuing the relationship.

As David Beckham ventures into the world of American sports with his ownership of Inter Miami CF, one might expect him and Victoria to align themselves with the Sussexes, who have established a significant presence in the U.S. However, the Beckhams seem to be firmly aligned with the Windsor family, choosing loyalty over celebrity. 

In the hypothetical match of power couples, one could say the score now heavily favors William and Catherine, with the Beckhams standing by their traditional values and long-standing respect for the royal family.
