Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, continues to stir conversations about their life within and beyond the Royal Family.
The six-episode series, offering firsthand insights from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has received praise for its candid revelations, including a nod of approval from England rugby legend Matt Dawson.
Speaking to The Express, Dawson shared his initial reservations about the docuseries but later acknowledged its importance in providing the couple’s perspective.
“In the first 10 minutes, I thought, ‘Oh no, this is like a woe-is-me type doc,’” he admitted.
However, he said Meghan’s statement about reclaiming their narrative resonated with him. In the documentary, Meghan remarked, “The past six years of my life, books are written about our story from people who I don’t know. Doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
Dawson reflected, “I thought, in their environment, where everyone has a view of Harry—because he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past—I sort of thought, ‘OK, go with it.'”
He commended the couple for their transparency, noting the significance of hearing their experiences directly. “We all want to know what they are like, so why don’t we just get to see what they are like? At least it’s in their voice,” he said.
Addressing public curiosity about the Sussexes, Dawson added, “We are interested, and the nature of us and the Royal Family is that we want to know what is happening. We’re getting told from the horse’s mouth, so let’s embrace it and take it on board.”
The docuseries, which details Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties and their life in the United States, has sparked both criticism and support.
