The ramifications of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare are still being felt amongst the Royal Family over 18 months after its release. The controversial book was a global bestseller but has seemingly destroyed any hopes of a reconciliation between the Duke of Sussex and the rest of his family.

By including bombshell claims about his brother Prince William, sister-in-law Princess Catherine and mother-in-law Queen Camilla, Harry seemingly sought to cause maximum damage to the institution in the knowledge they were unlikely to publically fight back. But there is another way Harry could maximise that pain – a movie.

Harry retains control of the rights to any film, TV or stage version of his memoir. This could prove extremely lucrative at a time when he and Meghan Markle are trying to raise money to fund their Californian lifestyle.

It also has the added bonus of allowing the Duke creative control over how Meghan and his mother Princess Diana are depicted. Any attempt to paint either as a ‘villain’ in the story would be vetoed by Harry who could try and gain public sympathy for Meghan.

While Spare was bad enough for the royals on paper, a screen version would likely be even worse. Among the alleged incidents that could be shown is William’s apparent physical attack on Harry.

The Duke claims his older brother pushed him into a dog bowl during a heated exchange about Meghan. He also accused his brother and Kate of egging him on to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party in 2005.

Kate, Harry claimed, started a row with Meghan after the Duchess of Sussex spoke of the Princess of Wales’s ‘baby brain’ prior to Harry and Meghan’s wedding. Perhaps most damaging of all, he accused Camilla of briefing the press against Harry.
