A Royal expert has suggested that Prince Harry’s acceptance of an ESPY award is part of a broader strategy to reshape the Sussex brand.
Prince Harry is set to receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service later today, an honour established in memory of NFL player Pat Tillman who enlisted in the US military after 9/11 and tragically lost his life in Afghanistan in 2004.
The Duke of Sussex’s nomination for the award has sparked controversy, attracting criticism from not only Royal commentators but also from Pat Tillman’s family who have voiced their dissatisfaction with the decision.
On her programme, Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, Ms Schofield proposed that Harry’s decision to accept the award was part of a larger scheme by him and Meghan Markle to rebrand the Sussex image.
Ms Schofield stated: “The reality is this is all part of a bigger plan and that plan is to change public perception. This is huge for the Sussex brand and they’re trying to tell people that they should like Harry and Meghan because they’re martyrs, that’s basically what the strategy is.”, reports the Express.
During the ceremony, Prince Harry is anticipated to deliver a speech. Regarding what he might say, Ms Schofield expressed hope that he would declare “that he says this is not an award for me” but one “for the Invictus Games”.
She further speculated that he would likely not “acknowledge the family, the royal foundation and the grey suits that actually navigated truly creating the Invictus Games for Prince Harry”, suggesting that the prince “has little to no actual skills”.
Admiral Lord Alan West, former chief of the Royal Navy, has criticised Prince Harry’s acceptance of an award, suggesting that it doesn’t sit well with military personnel. He advised Harry to “think very hard and long” about accepting the award, as reported by the Mail.
