Why It Matters
A small handful of journalists from the “royal rota,” British news organizations accredited to cover official royal engagements, were there to capture content on behalf of the world’s media.
The young prince would needless to say have been forgiven for feeling a little overwhelmed as he got a warm welcome from Helen Haslem, Thomas’s head of the lower school, as a broadcast news camera, press photographer and print journalist watched on.
What to Know
Prince William took George for his first day at school by himself on September 7, 2017, because Princess Kate was struggling with morning sickness, as she was pregnant with at the time.
And the four-year-old was sporting a bruise and cuts under his right eye, having got into a recent scrape, the Daily Mail reported at the time.
The Prince of Wales described the experience at a Kensington Palace reception for the England Under-20 soccer team later that day.
“Stressful day,” he said. “Doing a school run. It was really nice actually. It went well. There was one other parent who had more of an issue with their children—so I was quite pleased I wasn’t the one.”
What People Are Saying
One fan replied, “so adorable 🥰 our future king 🤴 ❤️” while another commented on William’s role bringing his son to school: “Prince William our future king can’t wait.”
Some also felt they spotted that his “teacher is trained in ballet” based on “the way she walks.”
What Happens Next
Prince George later moved schools to Lambrook, in Berkshire, when his parents William and Kate moved out of Kensington Palace, in London, to Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor.
He turns 12 in July and will enter his final year at Lambrook in September. British newspapers had been speculating he would then go on to Eton College, though the reported in January that Kate had also visited Highgate School.
The independent North London school is coeducational, meaning all three of their children could potentially go there, whereas Eton is an all boys school, meaning would have to go somewhere else.
There has been no official confirmation about where George will go for the next stage of his education.
