Prince George telling his schoolmates “my dad will be king so watch out” went viral on as fans shared their appreciation for the “killer line.”
The future king, now 11, reportedly silenced his friends at school with a clapback only he could make, according to the , by Katie Nicholl.
A clip celebrating his retort was liked 135k times and viewed 682k times after being posted with the message: “George ate them up.”
Why It Matters
Royal family members sit in an unusual position in British society, always expected to be humble but, confusingly, occasionally also celebrated for leaning into their royal status.
Queen Elizabeth II, for example, amused many people when recently revealed she did their bath time while wearing her crown.
What to Know
In The New Royals, Nicholl wrote: “[William and Kate] are raising their children, particularly , with an awareness of who he is and the role he will inherit, but they are keen not to weigh them down with a sense of duty.
“George understands he will one day be king and as a little boy sparred with friends at school, outdoing his peers with the killer line: ‘My dad will be king so you better watch out’.”
It isn’t clear exactly when the prince is said to have made the remark, but the book hit shelves in the fall of 2022, when George was nine, and he was born in July.
Given the length of time it takes for a book to go from final draft to print it is therefore likely he was eight or younger when he actually delivered the line.
It also isn’t known how it got back to Nicholl, though she is an experienced royal correspondent for Vanity Fair who has been covering the monarchy for well over a decade.
