Prince William and ‘s highs and lows at the UEFA Euros 2024 soccer tournament final on Sunday have gone viral on social media, capturing the national mood in Britain after the England team lost a tight match 2-1 against Spain.

William attended the match at the Olympiastadion in Berlin in his capacity as president of the Football Association, a role he was given in 2010. The royal was accompanied by his elder son, George, who will celebrate his 11th birthday on July 22.

The father-son duo have attended a number of soccer matches together in recent months. In April, they were (William’s favorite team) and the prince was accompanied by his son at the between and at Wembley Stadium in May.

Both princes were caught on camera during their Euros trip to Germany celebrating England’s match highs and commiserating their lows.

Uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) by user, tokkianami, of father and son matching their movements during a near miss at a goal for England has gone viral, gaining over half a million views on the platform in under 24 hours.

In the clip, which has also circulated on and , George and William rise from their seats in anticipation and then raise their hands to their faces in mock horror after the goal opportunity was missed.

Captioned “Prince William and Prince George 😂,” the clip has received over 12,000 likes and numerous comments, many of which noted the similarities between father and son.

“Like father, like son,” wrote one X user, with another adding: “Can just picture this happening at their home on the sofa!”

A further user noted the absence of William and Princess Kate’s younger son, , writing: “It’s going to be so cool when Louis is older enough to join them ❤️.”

After the match, William wrote a personal message on the royal’s official social media channels, expressing pride in the England players.

“This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England,” he wrote, signing off with his initial: “W”

On Monday, as the dust in England settled after the Spanish defeat, the Wales family accounts shared another tribute to the team, this time authored by William and Kate, with a and Louis watching the match.

“England, your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old,” they . “Congratulations to Spain. W & C.”
