(NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has several IMMEDIATE opportunities for experienced Operations Technicians at its Torrance, CA facility.The Southern California refinery H2 facilities are located adjacent to each other onsite at the PBF Refinery, and currently consist of two (2) SMR (steam methane reformer) units and associated equipment within the growing Los Angeles area H2 pipeline franchise.You will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the processes to produce hydrogen, which includes operating and controlling the following:Water Treatment Systems (Boiler System)
- DCS monitoring systems
- Rotating Equipment
- Catalyst Reactors
- Pneumatically Operated and Manual Valves
- Syngas Clean Up skids
Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency, be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts at either of the 2 facilities, and on limited occasions assist other AP sites in the Los Angeles region and North America with Operations support. Being a dedicated teammate, having a commitment to safety, and strong communications skills are a must.Within the Operations Tech role you will work hand in hand with Mechanical Technicians, Instruments Technicians, other Operations Tech’s, and Process Engineers to safely and efficiently maintain and operate the Hydrogen Plants, to include participating in the management of effective safety programs.We encourage qualified candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and/or military or technical background with plant process experience to apply.Applicants with Navy backgrounds:
The Plant Operator position aligns very well with the experience that would have been learned in engineering department rates on both surface and sub-surface ships in both nuclear and non-nuclear ratings, such as:
- Machinist’s Mate
- Electrician’s Mate
- Damage Control man
- Engineman
- Electronic Tech
- Gas Turbine Systems Technician
Some of the specific skills acquired that are applicable are:
- Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/ diagrams
- Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment
- Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process
- Performing Water chemistry testing
- Operating manual and pneumatic valves
- Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System
- Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours i.e.
- Turbine Generator Watch
- CCS/ DC Central Watch
- Working safely in dynamic environments (loud, high temps, etc.)
