The night before the wedding jitters happen to everyone – even the royal family and the night before Prince William was set to marry Princess Kate he was nervous too.
On Friday, April 19, 2011, at 11 o’clock Prince William of Wales and Kate were married in Westminster Abbey. Ahead of the service, Kate travelled by car with her father from the Goring Hotel, down The Mall to Parliament Square.
However, the night before Prince William was greeted outside of Clarence House where he spent the night alongside his best man and brother Prince Harry. Stepping out to cheers and a very supportive crowd filled with affection William had a lovely exchange with one of the royal fans waiting to rejoice before his big day. On the evening before his wedding in a short exchange with one of the royal fans, Prince William said: “I hope I’m not too nervous tomorrow,” sharing his wedding jitters just like many grooms before him, even if their weddings aren’t whole state affairs.
Elsewhere in London, accompanied by her maid of honour, sister Pippa Middleton, and mum Carole Middleton, a beaming Kate was spotted greeting fans gathered outside London’s Goring Hotel, where the bride-to-be was spending her last night as a singleton in the luxury hotel’s Royal Suite. Following a dress rehearsal at Westminster Abbey, Kate and her family were dropped outside the hotel, where the radiant bride-to-be waved to well-wishers as they cheered for the future Princess’s attention.
On the big day after arriving at Westminster Abbey a body language expert claimed that Prince William was quite nervous, however with Kate’s arrival he was able to calm down. Speaking to the Daily Express: “Body language expert, Darren Stanton, revealed: “When William arrived at Westminster Abbey, you could sense he was nervous as he was wringing his hands together. It’s quite a natural response for a wedding day, with most people feeling nervous or anxious. You could see his heart was racing and he was wringing his hands together, which are both gestures of feeling apprehensive.”
The expert praised Kate’s calm and collected demeanor which he said ultimately gave Will the ability to go on with the ceremony and stay calm. Darren said: “She was very similar to the confident Kate that we see now. As the ceremony went on, it was clear that she gave strength to William and built up his confidence. His emotions were initially quite high and he was full of nerves, but he soon relaxed with Kate by his side.”
As of April 2024, Prince William and Kate, now the Prince and Princess of Wales, have been married for 13 years. They have 3 children, George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
