He is expected to travel to London next month in a bid to win back publicly-funded security while in the UK. And despite years away from her husband’s native home, insiders say that Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle is also preparing for a shock return to the UK – as a favourable outcome to next month’s crucial court case could see the couple spending significantly more time in Britain and Europe.
But the news hasn’t been well-received by everyone as a source confirms Kate, William and King Charles are ‘concerned’.
Since Meghan and Harry officially stepped down from royal duties in 2020, they have been outspoken against the royals. In 2021, Meghan made claims of racism in the royal family after speculation about baby Archie’s skin colour before his birth. She also claimed that Kate made her cry before her wedding, but later apologised. Referring to their series of bombshell claims, Buckingham Palace released a statement to say ‘recollections may vary’ – a comment widely attributed to have been insisted on by Kate.

In 2023, Harry added to the drama, releasing a shocking tell-all autobiography, Spare, which included details of how William ‘knocked’ him to the floor in a fight.
A source claims, ‘Kate still feels so upset about what has happened – especially with Meghan, where there seemed to have been a lot of personal digs against her. She doesn’t want to experience that kind of turmoil within the family again, although she is still keen to repair the damage with Harry. She felt as if Meghan was almost intent on destroying the royals and she won’t let that happen again – it felt like a betrayal and she can’t see a way back from that.’
And while California-based Harry and his wife – whose Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, was recently panned by critics – are keen to bring their children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, to the UK to spend time with loved ones, our source says it’s unclear whether they’ll be welcomed back into royal circles.

The source says, ‘A key priority for them is reconnecting with family. Their first stop will be Althorp, the Spencer family estate, where Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, was laid to rest. Harry and Meghan have wanted to spend the holidays with the Spencers for the past few years, but security concerns have prevented them from accepting. Resolving their legal issues would remove a significant barrier to rekindling these family ties.’
The Sussexes are believed to have already started house-hunting for a UK base as Harry, 40, and former actress Meghan, 43, no longer have access to their previous home, Frogmore Cottage, after King Charles requested they vacate the property. If the security ruling is in their favour, they will have the flexibility to split their time between Montecito, the UK and Portugal – where they recently bought a holiday home.
The source adds, ‘While there aren’t any plans for them to move to the UK full-time, there is a plan in motion to spend the summer months in the UK and Europe. The couple are in the early stages of house-hunting in the UK, with plans to secure a residence as soon as security issues are resolved.

‘There have also been events and meetings planned related to the Invictus Games and other projects the couple have been working on. So, for Meghan, being able to participate fully in these activities makes resolving the security question all the more urgent.’
The Sussexes have only returned to Prince Harry’s home country a handful of times, with Meghan’s last visit being the Queen’s funeral in September 2022. Opening up about why he continues his legal battle over security arrangements, Harry said last summer, ‘It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read. Whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is – and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.’
However, five years after ‘Megxit’, it’s clear things between the Sussexes and the Waleses are nowhere near resolved. Despite rumours that Harry met with Kate while she and William were on holiday in the Caribbean last month, it seems the knowledge that Meghan – who is returning to the airwaves with a new business-based podcast, Confessions Of A Female Founder – is looking to re-establish roots in the UK hasn’t gone down well.

‘There won’t be a reunion with the royal family,’ another insider shares. ‘There have been concerns raised about how the family dynamic will be affected by the news that the Sussexes are looking for a home in the UK. So, while rebuilding a relationship with the King will be an ongoing focus, that won’t include other members of the family.’
And the insider adds that, in addition to their globetrotting, the couple plan to channel a lot of their energy into their joint reputation this year.
The source adds, ‘While Meghan continues to pursue solo ventures, there will be an increased focus on promoting the Sussex brand as a united front. Despite all the previous whispers of divorce and separate lives, they are very much together, in love and happy.’
