Move over Liz Truss, the real leaders of our global future are in Manchester this week – not Westminster. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, having apparently got bored of their LA exile, appeared at the One Young World Summit to speak to the next generation of ambitious strivers.
The event, described as ‘a chance for the individuals responsible for shaping the future, to come together to confront the biggest challenges facing humanity,’ had Meghan down for a speech about gender equality. What they got was a lecture about… Meghan. Leadership tomorrow means talking about yourself today.
In seven short minutes, the duchess managed to squeeze in 54 references to herself. This comes as no surprise to Mr S, who as a dutiful masochist has listened to both her Archetypes podcast episodes as well as countless other Meghan appearances. Meghan has a peculiar relationship with the English language, especially on the rare occasions in which she veers away from the first person.
We often hear people say that ‘time is now’ but I’m going to double down on that by saying ‘your time is now’. Important work can’t wait for tomorrow and this week the world is watching as you cement your place in history by showcasing the good that you are doing today in the present moment as we embrace the moment of now to create a better tomorrow.
Eh?
And where was Harry, you ask? Well, the prince was there sitting awkwardly as Meghan blathered on about herself. But the only time we saw anything other than a Cheshire smile from him was after the speech when Harry was hastily ushering Meghan toward the exit, pausing briefly for a few selfies. Next stop, Düsseldorf for the Invictus Games ceremony, which is Harry’s department. Will Meghan steal the show there too?
