When it comes to high fashion, the British royals have set and inspired trends dating back centuries, from the elaborate costumes of Elizabeth I to the domestic simplicity favored by Queen Victoria.
Today, these influences on fashion remain, such as Princess Kate’s continually seen at high-profile events or her floral Erdem designs. The limited pool of industry creatives sees the royals often sharing their styles and favorite brands.
One of the most worn of these brands is the. The Florence, Italy–based house, founded by designer Edgardo Osorio in 2012, counts some of the world’s most famous women among its clients, from to Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Though several members of the world’s royal families have worn Aquazzura at important events—including most recently Princess Eugenie at the this past Friday—the brand has perhaps become most closely aligned with , who walked into royal life on a succession of Aquazzura heels when she married .
Meghan wore the brand’s Matilde pumps for her Kensington Palace photo call with Harry on November 27, 2017, to mark the couple’s engagement.
She then wore several variations of the Aquazzura Bow Tie pump, which features a classic slimline toe box with a small bow tied at the top of the shoe’s heel. Meghan has continued to wear the style over the years and since her separation from the monarchy, but they have also found a fan in Princess Kate.
Though perhaps best known for her in a rainbow of colors and textiles, Kate has also turned to Aquazzura for important style moments.

During a tour of the Caribbean in 2022, the princess wore a pair of the Cece 105 pumps for her arrival in Jamaica. She also debuted a pair of their Love Link heels for Garter Day in 2022.
In 2023, Kate was spotted wearing a pair of black Bow Tie pumps for the pre-coronation reception for Commonwealth leaders and to meet fans lining the streets of London.
As for why the shoe and the brand are the perfect royal pairing, royal fashion expert Christine Ross told Regalrumination.com that it is a matter of flexibility.
“The Bow Tie style from Aquazzura has become a favorite of women across the world, and the royals are no exception,” she said. “Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Princess Eugenie and the Princess of Wales all have at least one of these iconic Aquazzura styles in their wardrobe.”
She continued: “The brand has settled comfortably into the fashion world since 2012, with the flirty bow style becoming a favored twist on an otherwise timeless design. The designer Edgardo Osorio’s time at the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins cemented his relationship with the British elite. He has created shoes that are perfect for the most royal of events, from charity meetings to evening galas.”
