Thomas Markle has got a lot on his mind. Since his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry, Thomas Markle can’t stop giving his opinion to journalists around the world. On very bad terms with the Duchess of Sussex, he regularly speaks out about their non-existent relationship, regretting that she has never tried to calm the situation. He told Good Morning Britain:

I’ve done nothing wrong. There’s nothing that says I’m a bad guy. As a matter of fact, I’m a really loving father, and she knows that, and there’s no excuse for her to treat me this way. I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I’m shocked to this day. She’s not the person I knew as my daughter.

In the six years since the ceremony, and they still have not mended the problems between them. Doria Ragland’s ex-partner still doesn’t understand why he’s still being singled out as the villain. He told the Daily Mail:

When you look at what Harry and Meghan have done since, like accusing the Royal Family of racism, it’s far worse than anything I’ve done. I don’t want pity and I don’t want this episode to define my life. I don’t want to be a footnote in history.

Archie and Lilibet deprived of their links with the royal family

Another reason why mourning his relationship with his famous daughter is so difficult is that he has never had the chance to meet his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet. Deprived of his role as grandfather, Thomas Markle is particularly worried about the future of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s children. The five-year-old boy and the three-year-old girl have grown up a long way from the United Kingdom and therefore from the British Royal Family. The father of the former Suits star believes they have been deprived of a part of their lives. It’s a sad fact that breaks his heart when he sees images of the major events that bring King Charles III and his family together. He recently told New Zealand Women’s Weekly:

It struck me as very sad that Meghan and Harry’s kids are being denied the right to know their cousins, who look like fantastic children, or take part in things like Trooping the Colour, which is their birthright.

Thomas Markle worries about the future of his grandchildren

Archie and Lilbet are too young to realise it at the moment, and Thomas Markle is worried about how they will react when they are old enough to understand. He continued:

They are getting to the age where they will start to ask questions, as all kids do. I find myself wondering how Archie and Lilbet will feel in a few years’ time when they realise all the things they have missed out on.

According to Royal expert Tom Quinn, who heard it from a friend of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is said to share the same fear. Last April, he told the Mirror:

A friend of the couple – one of Meghan’s few aristocratic friends from her time in the UK – told me Meghan does miss some aspects of life in the UK and worries that her children will blame her if they never get to see their cousins and feel as adults that they have been deprived of what might have been a fun and meaningful existence in the UK as working royals.

Only time will tell.
