Meghan Markle was dubbed ‘Mystic Meg’ by staff working for the Royal Family due to her ‘woke‘ and ‘new agey’ beliefs, a new book has claimed.
Aides also grew concerned that she had changed her husband Prince Harry into a ‘tree-hugging leftie’ who rejected t9he ‘values and traditions of his family’.
Older members of staff thought Meghan was ‘Mrs Simpson come back to haunt us’, in reference to American divorcée Wallis Simpson who caused Harry’s great-great uncle Edward VIII to abdicate when he married her.
The claims have been made in the upcoming book Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants by royal author Tom Quinn, of which an extract has been published in The Times.
One former staffer said Harry had become ‘far more concerned about social issues and the rights of minorities than he’d ever been before Meghan’s arrival’.
And although he noted some of the youngest staff at Kensington Palace would’ve applauded this, the older staff thought he had gone awry.
One of Harry’s senior aides, now retired, said when he had meetings with the Prince about upcoming events, he felt his mind was elsewhere.
Although attending events had always been the core activity of the senior royals, he said he felt Harry instead saw his core activity as being with Meghan and adopting her views of the world.

Her nickname Mystic Meg was a reference to the now-dead astrologer who rose to fame in the 1990s by writing horoscopes and performing various astrology-related feats.
She was raised by her yoga instructor mother Doria Ragland, who has been described as a ‘hippie’ in the past.
Meghan’s beliefs as a youngster were outlined in 2015 when she made a speech at the United Nations where she told the story of how she had complained about a sexist TV advert when she was just 11 years old.
Elsewhere in Mr Quinn’s book he explained although Meghan was indeed branded ‘the Duchess of Difficult’ by some staff, she did have her supporters amongst ordinary staff who liked her feisty and change-hungry nature.
The author described how Kensington Palace staff split into ‘for Meghan’ and ‘against Meghan’ and the atmosphere became one of ‘swirling rumour, gossip and backbiting’.
For the book, which will be published on February 18, Mr Quinn spoke to ex and retired workers from inside the Palace and discussed their views on the members of the family they served.
According to one of Elizabeth II’s former courtiers, the Palace began to worry when they became aware that Meghan had plans for her life as a working royal that were not part of the approved programme.
However her desire to do her own thing would never allow her to outshine Princess Anne, Charles or the Queen, according to the ex-aide.
They added they didn’t think Meghan understood when joining the royal family, you don’t do as you please, you do as you’re told.
A courtier claimed Meghan said she wanted to finish what Diana had started, and although she wanted to do this to some extent, it was on a part-time basis.
The alarmed pals whispered Harry was ‘f***ing nuts’ to be dating the actress who they said acted ‘princessy’, ‘woke’ and had no sense of humour.
Meghan’s politics continued to be visible when she stole most of the headlines when she waded into the #MeToo movement at her and Harry’s first-ever joint event with Prince William and Kate Middleton in February 2018.
Although the cause was widely supported, due to the pending creation of laws on the topic, it had become political which meant commenting on it was the biggest royal taboo.
And in September 2018 she launched a cookbook with recipes from a group of multi-cultural women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, saying she was ‘proud to live in a city with so much diversity’.
Since leaving The Firm in January 2020 after a turbulent time, Meghan has continued to be outspoken on a range of hot-button issues, including Black Lives Matter and voter suppression.
And in a video address prior to the 2020 US presidential election, she and Harry told voters to ‘reject hate speech’ – which was widely seen as an anti-Trump statement.
Some commentators have suggested Meghan is harbouring political ambitions and could even be eyeing up becoming a Democrat Senator in her home state of California.
Most recently, she and Harry intervened in politics yet again when just two months before America went to the polls in 2024, their Archewell Foundation has been sending out personalised letters to unregistered voters.
The letters claimed that ‘every voice matters’, but the couple insisted they were politically neutral and had not mentioned any candidates.
But experts have said that Harry ‘feared’ a Trump victory because the Republican nominee has been clear that the British royal could be deported from the US if he lied about taking drugs on his American visa application.
At the time Greg Swenson, a London-based financier and Chairman of Republicans Overseas UK, believed their political intervention will not influence Americans, but may ingratiate themselves with the ‘Hollywood woke elites’ they wish to impress.
He said: ‘Every move Harry and Meghan make is carefully orchestrated to keep them popular among their circle of elites. Most woke Hollywood elites are voting for Kamala – but I’m surprised they haven’t outright endorsed her.

‘The only thing left for her to do now is to run for office.
‘I don’t think they would move the needle – they are known as woke celebrities. I don’t think there is any mystery regarding their views that are consistent with the progressive left (Kamala). The voters who like Harry and Meghan would probably vote Kamala anyway. I don’t think they would change anyone’s vote’.

Investigative journalist and biographer of the couple, Tom Bower, told MailOnline at the time it was another attempt to get ‘noticed’ – and a sign that Meghan’s political ambitions are not dead.
He said: ‘Ambitious to be famous and influential, Meghan Markle yearns to belong to the American political establishment, especially the Democrat party.
‘Soon after returning to California in 2020, she approached California’s governor seeking an opportunity to secure nomination to a political post, not least as a candidate for Congress.
‘However, her endorsement of Biden against Trump in 2020 ended in disaster. Harry’s silly contribution to urge Americans to vote was ridiculed because he was a foreigner who was ignorant about American politics.
‘And Trump’s retaliation was fierce. If elected, he threatened to kick Harry out of America. Not surprisingly, the Sussexes are now more cautious. They can’t resist giving an opinion – and Meghan has not given up her political ambitions – but they rightly fear Trump’s election.
‘Their anodyne message that Americans should vote will be ignored across America but feeds their self-importance, and gets them noticed in Britain, an important marker for Harry’.
