Meghan Markle will have to make a crucial decision on whether she remains distant from the UK.

The Duchess of Sussex has not travelled to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Prince Harry has made multiple solo trips to London over the last two years and in some cases has looked isolated without his wife by his side.

The absence of Meghan in the UK has been compounded for Prince Harry by his feud with the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Harry is no longer on speaking terms with his brother or Princess Catherine.

Prince Harry’s most high-profile solo trip to the UK came in May 2023 at King Charles’s Coronation.

Meghan Markle was invited to the occasion but decided not to go amid fears she could be booed by members of the public during the event.

Harry did not speak with senior royals during the Coronation and was instead relegated to the third row of Westminster Abbey with non-working members of the Royal Family.

Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and their husbands rallied round the Duke of Sussex during the event but there were many moments during the landmark day when Harry looked alone.

Prince Harry’s most recent trip to the UK came in May 2024 when he attended an anniversary event for the Invictus Games at St Paul Cathedral.

The royal was warmly received by the crowd that gathered outside the venue and received several loud cheers of support.

However, it was noticeable that no other member of the Royal Family was in attendance.

Meghan Markle has always made an effort to be a pillar of support and unity for Harry at the Invictus Games.

She attended the 2023 edition of the games in Dsseldorf, Germany just two days after snubbing making an appearance in the UK alongside her husband at the WellChild Awards.

With the news today that the 2027 Invictus Games will be hosted in Birmingham, the Duchess of Sussex will have to make a decision on whether she will come to the UK for the event.

In three years the Sussexes could have mended their feud with the Royal Family and may have undertaken multiple trips to the UK.

There is also the possibility that the situation remains as frosty as it is now between the Sussexes and the royals and Meghan’s absence from the UK continues.

If the latter scenario is the case in 2027 then the Duchess of Sussex will have to decide whether cutting ties with the UK outweighs supporting Prince Harry at an event that holds deep importance to him.

There is a long way to go before the Invictus Games touches down in Birmingham but also a huge chasm that will take time to repair between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.
