Prince William’s meeting with sparked ridicule from a campaigner who previously described as a “friend.”
The Duchess of Sussex previously heaped praise on Shannon Watts’ campaign group, Moms Demand Action, for its work on ending gun violence in America.
Watts launched Moms Demand Action in the aftermath of a the Sandy Hook mass shooting in 2012, after setting up a group. The success of the group led her to launch a full campaign organization pushing for stronger gun laws and the closing of loopholes.
Watts shared her thoughts on X, formerly Twitter, after pictures emerged of holding a meeting in Paris alongside the re-opening ceremony for the once fire-ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral.
“I probably wouldn’t meet with a man who said he could have f***** my mom and demanded to see naked photos of my wife, but what do I know,” Watts wrote.
She adorned her message with screenshots showing Trump’s past remarks about and Princess Kate.
The first was a Regalrumination.com article reporting passages of biography The King: The Life of Charles III by Christopher Anderson which read: “It didn’t help that Trump…had aggressively pursued Princess Diana after her divorce—overtures that were rebuffed—and claimed later on a radio program that he could have ‘nailed her if I wanted to,’ but only if she passed an HIV test.”
The reference was to an interview Trump gave Howard Stern in which the host asked him: “Why do people think it’s egotistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di? You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her.”
“I think I could have,” Trump replied. In a later 2000 conversation with Stern the President-elect said he would have slept with Diana: “Without even hesitation.”
The second was a Tweet posted by Trump after Kate was photographed sunbathing topless in the private grounds of a chateau in France. The photographer was positioned on a hillside some distance away and used a long lens to shoot over a wall around the residence.
“Kate Middleton is great – but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude – only herself to blame,” Trump tweeted after the pictures were published in French Closer magazine in 2012.
“Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!”
Watts’ observation followed an earlier post showing a photo of William and Trump side by side along the message: “🙃🙃🙃.”
Meghan wrote to Moms Demand Action in 2022 to praise their campaign for greater gun control not long after she paid a visit to Uvalde following the Robb Elementary School shooting.
Her letter read: “To each of you and your fearless leader, Shannon, a huge thank you for the work you are doing to keep our kids, families, and communities safe.
“Please know that while you may feel exhausted by your endless hours of dedication to this cause, I hope you feel energized in knowing that the work you’re doing is vital and so deeply appreciated.
“As a mom, as a friend, thank you so much!”
Prince William’s meeting with Trump was closely watched in Britain where the Labour Government will be hoping for a boost to the U.K.-U.S. special relationship, however, the president-elect is a controversial figure in Britain.
This has created a tight rope walk for the future king tasked with a key diplomatic mission but in the face of a suggestion the president-elect
