The Queen, Queen Elizabeth II! Honestly, no one could top her. I had to choose between her and someone else, but ultimately, the Queen won. She’s the original OG! What inspired you to choose Queen Elizabeth II as this week’s Royal Hero? I grew up with the Queen reigning, and she was always this constant pillar of strength for everyone. She was a positive influence, always putting out messages of hope and reassurance, encouraging people to stay strong and believe that things would get better. 

You’d never hear her complain; she just got on with her duties. I think that’s something we’ve lost nowadays—everyone seems to be complaining or playing the victim. It’s refreshing to look back at someone as strong and resilient as the Queen, someone young girls can look up to instead of today’s trends of twerking and booty-shaking, which I don’t think set a good example. That’s why I picked the Queen.

The Queen has been in the news lately because of a new book by Craig Brown. It’s claimed that she found Donald Trump “very rude,” but Trump has fired back, saying the claims are totally false and insisting they had a great relationship. He even told the Daily Mail, “I heard I was a favorite President… It’s totally false. I had a great relationship with the Queen; she liked me, and I liked her.” Do you believe Queen Elizabeth would have actually said Trump was rude?

No, I don’t think the Queen would ever say that to anyone, not even her closest confidant, Angela Kelly. The Queen was too graceful and composed for that. This feels like gossip, the kind that would come out of Meghan Markle’s mouth. It’s complete BS to me, just an attempt to sell the book. When have we ever heard of the Queen being rude? Never. And now, after she’s passed and can’t defend herself, these stories come out. It’s disgusting, really.

There was also a story a year or two ago that claimed Queen Elizabeth II described Meghan Markle as “evil.” Do you think there’s any truth to that?

I’m on the fence about that. I don’t see the Queen making careless remarks like that, especially knowing it could leak to the press. She might have had her thoughts and shared them privately with Prince Philip, but I don’t believe she would say something like that to anyone outside her inner circle.

 I do think there could be some truth to the Queen making those comments, but maybe not in the way it’s being reported. For example, when Trump visited for a state visit, he walked in front of the Queen while inspecting the guard, which is a big no-no. She might have commented on protocol breaches rather than outright calling him rude. It’s more likely she would have noted his ignorance of royal protocol rather than being deliberately insulting. Does that make more sense to you?

It just seems like mindless gossip to me. I don’t see the Queen speaking that way or being careless with her words. It just doesn’t fit her character.

Fair enough! Well, that’s Megan’s Maul’s Royal Hero of the Week. As for me, my Royal Hero of the Week is someone you might not have heard of, but who played a crucial role in Queen Elizabeth II’s life: the late Lady Virginia Ogilvy. She was the Queen’s close confidant and the first American lady-in-waiting, who passed away this week at the age of 91. To honor her, I’m choosing her as my Royal Hero of the Week for her decades of dedicated service to the Queen.

Lady Virginia was appointed Lady of the Bedchamber in 1973 and remained in her position until Queen Elizabeth’s passing in September 2022. King Charles has expressed his deep sadness at her passing, highlighting how close she was to the Queen. We even have a clip here from when Donald Trump visited in 2018, showing the Queen introducing him to Lady Virginia, proving just how integral she was to the Queen’s life.

So, in memory and gratitude for Lady Virginia’s service to the Queen and the country, she’s my Royal Hero of the Week. Have you ever heard of her, Megan’s Maul?

The Lady of the Bedchamber was more like a personal assistant or attendant to the Queen. She was probably someone you had to go through to get an audience with the Queen, making her a very important figure in the royal household.
