Meghan Markle corrected Mindy Kaling in her new cooking show after the comedian referred to using her pre-married name.
News organizations, including Regalrumination.com, refer to the royal as “Meghan Markle,” as that is how people know her and therefore that is the most common search term.
However, when she married , she technically lost her original surname and became Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan was cooking for her , alongside Kaling when they started chatting about tacos.
“I don’t think anyone in the world knows that has eaten Jack in the Box and loves it,” Kaling said.
“It’s so funny too that you keep saying ‘Meghan Markle,’ you know I’m Sussex now?” Meghan said.
Prince Harry is also the Duke of Sussex, while their children are of Sussex and of Sussex.
“You have kids and you go, you know, I share my name with my children and that feels so… I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go, ‘this is our family name. Our little family name,'” Meghan said.
“Well, now I know and I love it,” Kaling said.
Meghan’s reaction is an interesting one as her position on royal titles has not always been completely clear.
In 2021, she told : “All the grandeur surrounding this stuff is an attachment that I don’t personally have, right?
“I’ve been a waitress, an actress, a princess, a duchess. I’ve always just still been Meghan, right? So, for me, I’m clear on who I am, independent of all that stuff. And the most important title I will ever have is mom. I know that.”
And she later added: “I nearly lost my name,” though she did not say which name she was referring to.
Meghan told Oprah she but suggested that was linked to whether or not they would get police protection: “If you’re saying the title is what’s going to affect their protection, we haven’t created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder.
“You’ve allowed that to happen, which means our son needs to be safe.”
Meghan told People magazine about her fondness for Sussex as the name of her wing of the family in an interview promoting her Netflix show.
However, correcting Kaling on camera is the furthest she has gone in publicly disavowing the name given to her by her now estranged father.
That may also give a clue about her desire to stick with Sussex as she has not spoken to Thomas Markle since he and then lied to her about it in the run up to her May 2018 royal wedding. Her mother is Doria Ragland.
