The 55-year-old musical icon was one of many artists who recorded a message for their top listeners on Spotify Wrapped, thanking them for their support this year. After the singer-songwriter’s video began circulating on X (formerly known as ), many people claimed the footage was AI.

However, on Thursday, December 5, the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer took to the social media platform to shut down the rumors.

“Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI?? There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things!” Carey wrote via X.

The “One Sweet Day” singer didn’t let the online haters get her down, adding she was excited about her concert in Boston, Massachusetts, that night. “About to celebrate with my Boston !” she wrote.

Fans quickly commented that people only said it was AI because she looked so “perfect.”

A fan wrote, “AI could NEVER be this perfect, QUEEN!!!”

“I got your message on and I knew it was you and loved the out of character red lipstick but knew it was for a festive occasion. Loved it and appreciate you and all you do for the lambily!” another person commented.

In the video, Carey wore a outfit with red lipstick and kept her hair down as she thanked her supporters.

Some people noted that it wasn’t AI that made the video look off, rather it seemed like she was reading a script.

“Not her reading off the cue cards 😭,” somebody wrote.
