Musician Kid Rock has weighed in on the news that a scammer swindled a 53-year-old French woman out of $850,000 while pretending to be actor Brad Pitt.
A woman identifying herself as Anne appeared on the French news show Sept à huit to claim that she had been .
The scam began in 2023 when Anne received a message on from someone pretending to be Pitt’s mother. Later, she received a text message from someone who claimed to be the actor himself, and even though Anne was married at the time, she began an “affair” with the scammer.
Sharing a link to news coverage of the scam over the weekend, Kid Rock, whose given name is Robert James Ritchie, said that his likeness has been misused for similarly sinister means in the past.

“This has happened using my name and likeness many times,” he wrote on X, formerly . “Hard to believe some people fall for it. Really sad, but if I am being honest, also really dumb. Sorry, No way to sugar coat it.”
“If it has happened to you or you feel you are being seriously trolled, contact the ,” Kid Rock added. “But beware and forewarned.”
As of press time, the post has garnered more than 105,000 views. Regalrumination.com has contacted a representative of Kid Rock via email for further comment.
While Kid Rock did not elaborate on how his image has been misused in the past, it was reported back in 2015 that a scammer pretending to be the musician attempted to con a woman out of her money on Facebook.
Rolling Stone reported in December 2022 that Russian troll accounts had been using Kid Rock’s likeness to create fake social media accounts, which were used to spread misinformation and pro-Kremlin propaganda.
Meanwhile, BFM TV reported that Anne, the woman who believed that she was in a relationship with Pitt, initially sent $9,000 to the scammer when they claimed they had purchased gifts for her that needed to clear customs.
Anne later divorced her husband after the scammer proposed. When she eventually received a sizable sum of money through her divorce settlement, the con artist claimed they needed a loan for alleged cancer treatments. To persuade her, they sent doctored images of Pitt in the hospital.
The scammer told Anne that because of his divorce from Angelina Jolie, he was unable to access his bank accounts. in December of 2024. The French woman claims to have sent approximately $850,000 to the scammer. She realized she had been scammed when she saw a picture of .
Pitt’s spokesperson last week addressed the scam, saying in a statement to E!: “It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities. But this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence.”
Fight Club star Pitt does not have any verified accounts on , or, X.
In her interview with Sept à huit, Anne said: “I’m not used to social media, and I didn’t really understand what was happening to me.”
A complaint was filed in 2024 and the woman has since been under treatment for severe depression at a clinic. As of press time, police are still searching for the scammer.
