Appearing inside Madison Square Garden, where he performed on Monday night, Timberlake held up one of his tour t-shirts that read: “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.”
“Because this is so important right now,” Timberlake said to the camera, appearing reluctant to participate before singing “we had to do it,” which was also the caption of the post and he tagged the New York Knicks basketball team who play at the stadium.
People reacted to the video in the comments, with some suggesting the tour merchandise be updated with what was said between him and the police officer.
“Ok but petition for new merch that says ‘This is going to ruin the tour’ because I’d honestly buy that in a heartbeat,” wrote @tigaaayg.
“You should make a tour shirt with your mug shot. That’d be kinda 🔥,” added @reynardsilva.
Others pointed out that Timberlake’s post was likely more in reference to the colors of the t-shirt, which were that of the Knicks. His tour t-shirts are different colors depending which city he performs in and as a part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies, he was presumably not too keen to be parading the Knicks’ colors.
“I could never wear the Knicks colors 😂😂 Let’s gooo @miamiheat 🔥” wrote @djfreestylesteve.
“Suns girl here but always enjoyed this color combo,” replied @nsyncmillenial.
Timberlake returned to the stage just days after his arrest in Chicago, where he addressed the controversy.
“We’ve been together through ups and downs and lefts and rights. And, uh, it’s been a tough week. But you’re here and I’m here. Nothing can change this moment right now,” Timberlake said, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. “I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me and I love you right back.”
