Jeremy Clarkson’s new pub has a surprising link to Prince Harry.
64-year-old Jeremy hit headlines in 2022 after writing a sickening article about how much he “hated” Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle. The misogynistic column was taken down after it received fierce backlash and was ruled sexist by the press regulator IPSO.
The notoriously bad blood between the Top Gear alum and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex makes their new professional connection pretty astonishing. According to reports, Jeremy’s new pub’s landlord used to be chairman of Harry’s African charity Sentebale – which helps young people diagnosed with HIV and AIDS.
Royal expert Richard Eden has uncovered a paper trail which shows that Johnny Hornby – who landed the landlord gig at Jeremy’s new Oxfordshire pub, the Windmill – has a pretty varied CV. The “advertising king” is reportedly one of the Duke’s “old friends”, serving as a trustee for Sentebale for eleven years, five of which were spent as chairman, before quitting in 2023.
Explaining the connection, Eden told the Daily Mail: “I can disclose that the license to serve alcohol was transferred to a company called Baobab Operations Ltd last month. The firm is run by Johnny Hornby, the advertising king who was chairman of Prince Harry’s African charity Sentebale.”
The new business connection will come as a devastating blow to Harry and Meghan. Jeremy was forced to apologise for his “hateful language” after his vile comments about Meghan led to widespread outrage. In the shocking column, he described how he hated the Duchess on a “cellular level”.
In one of the most appalling passages of his rant, the presenter described how he dreamt of Meghan being “made to parade naked through the streets” while crowds “throw lumps of excrement at her”.
Jeremy and Johnny’s business venture comes following news that Harry is finding himself increasingly isolated after several other old friends have cut ties or distanced themselves from the former working royal.
The Duke was notably absent from Jack Mann’s wedding last year, despite the groom serving as an usher in the Sussexes’ 2018 ceremony.
Last month, many were shocked when Harry did not attend the “society wedding of the year” between Hugh Grosvenor – who is one of Harry’s oldest friends and godfather to the Sussexes’ son Archie – and Olivia Henson.
The father of two previously admitted he fell out with some of his longtime friends after he and Meghan made bombshell revelations in their infamous Oprah Winfrey interview. Writing in his memoir Spare, the Prince said: “Several close mates and beloved figures in my life had chastised me for Oprah.”
Describing the fallout and his friends’ responses, Harry added: “’How could you reveal such things? About your family?’ I told them that I failed to see how speaking to Oprah was any different from what my family and their staff, had done for decades – briefing the press on the sly (and) planting stories.”
