Pop superstar Chappell Roan has shared her devastation after having to cancel her concerts in Amsterdam and Paris.
Born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, Roan’s stardom is on a meteoric rise, having become an international success in only a matter of months, despite being in the music industry for years. Rolling Stone has called her “The Future of Pop” and NME called her “the most exciting new pop star in the world right now.”
In September 2023, she released her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and that same month, she began her second headlining tour: The Midwest Princess Tour.
Unfortunately because of scheduling conflicts, she’s had to cancel some of the tour’s European shows.
Regalrumination.com emailed a spokesperson for Roan for comment on Thursday.
Roan took to X (formerly ) on Thursday to share the news, writing: “Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows. I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September. I am so sorry & very disappointed 🙁 I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken [broken heart emoji] thank you for understanding.”
In a follow-up post, she wrote: “Ticket holders for Paris and Amsterdam—refund will come from point of purchase. Berlin, your tickets will be automatically transferred over to the new date.”
There has been backlash in the comments from disappointed fans, with many saying this could have all been avoided.
“There’s been rumors about the Paris cancellation for *weeks* from reputable sources but it’s only five days beforehand that we get an official confirmation??? what’s the excuse there? what about the people who booked travelling accommodation that are now unrefundable?” one person commented.
“This tour has been planned many months ago. what could possibly mess with your schedule so badly that thousands of fans are left with atp nonrefundable travel costs. so unprofessional,” said another.
“girl berlin should be in two days?? sorry change your planning team.. this is not the first time this has happened and now i can pay a lot of money again.. also im so so sorry for those whose shows was cancelled. That’s not okay,” someone else wrote.
A fourth person added: “We’ve booked flights and a hotel, flying tomorrow from the U.K. to Berlin. Not cool at all. Hundreds of pounds wasted.”
This isn’t the first time that Roan has had to adjust the schedule of her shows. In July, she posted online: “Due to some scheduling shifts, I’ve had to jump out of the lineups for Superbloom and Lollapalooza Berlin. Wanted to make sure I see my German fans so I’m adding a headline show in Berlin at Columbiahalle on 31 August to kick off my EU tour!!”
The “Hot To Go!” singer has skyrocketed to fame and has struggled with the newfound attention this has brought her. On August 19, Roan set boundaries with her fans in , discussing privacy and respect and expressing frustration with the entitled attitude some fans display.
“I don’t give a f*** if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug. That’s not normal, that’s weird!” she stated.
The pop star said she noticed a disturbing trend where fans feel they have unrestricted access to her life.
“Just answer my questions for a second,” she asked viewers in the .
“If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from the car window? Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say, ‘Can I get a photo with you?’ And she’s like, ‘No, what the f***?’ And then you get mad at this random lady? Would you be offended if she says no to your time because she has her own time?”
She added: “Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know, and she doesn’t know you at all.”
