It’s the world’s most famous music festival that has attracted the biggest names for decades, from David Bowie to Billie Eilish.

This year’s event, which kicks off in just a few days, will be headlined by Dua Lipa and Coldplay.

While illustrious, they don’t have the regal pull of King Charles and Prince Harry, who are among the royals who have attended in the past.

And Prince William previously revealed that attending theSomerset musical extravaganza was on his and Kate’s bucket list.

During an interview on BBC Radio 1 in 2017, William said:’I’ve talked about going to Glastonbury before because I do love my music and Catherine as well.’

But he added that, due to security issues, ‘it’s kind of best to keep away from that.’

So while the Prince and Princess of Wales may not have visited Worthy Farm just yet, here are the royalswho have been lucky enough to attend Glastonbury.

In 2010 the King – who was then the Prince of Wales – visited Glastonbury to mark the festival’s 40th anniversary.

He stood out from the crowd of revellers in his customary suit and tie, but still seemed to enjoy himself.

Charles was given a tour of the site by Glastonbury’s founder, Michael Eavis.

The visit was notable for the future King’s interaction with young Australian Nick Wardle.

The man said:‘Hello mate, I’m Nick from Australia. I’m working at the festival.’

Without taking a breath Charles replied: ‘I would never have guessed. I hope you have a permit to work over here.’

Amused, rather than shocked, Mr Wardle replied: ‘Yes. I do, mate.’

He said afterwards: ‘The Prince is a top bloke. I thought it was funny he asked me about my visa.’

The visit was also marked by the moment that one of Charles’s protection officers was pictured reaching for his gun when an over-friendly spectator approached him.

The man in question was Bob Wilson, manager of the Greenpeace Field at Glastonbury. It turned out he was saying hello to another person.

But the officerfelt the man posed a risk and so reached for his concealed pistol before relaxing when it became clear he was not a threat.

Prince Harry

While his father visited the festival legally, Glasto founder recently joked that Prince Harry had ‘jumped the fence’ during his visit.

In April this year, Sir Michael, 88, was knighted during a ceremony presided over by the Princess Royal. After the ceremony he said: ‘The King came once, Prince Charles. And Harry – I think he jumped the fence I should think.’

When asked how he knew this, Sir Michael chuckled and said: ‘I’ve got spies everywhere. No, I’ve got security all over the place actually.’

Speaking back in 2013, Mr Eavis said: ‘Prince Harry was great actually.

‘I recommended that he should go on into the night, because the nightlife is what Glastonbury is all about.

‘At three o’clock in the afternoon, you don’t get it.

‘I told him to get his taxi driver to come back at five o’clock in the morning and do you know what? He lasted until four in the morning.

‘His friends were all having a great time. He didn’t want to make a formal thing of being here.’

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

Prince Andrew’s daughters have also been spotted enjoying the live music at Worthy Farm in the past.

Last Year, Beatrice and her husband,Edo Mapelli Mozzi, were seen hanging out with friends on the last day of the festival.

A Glastonbury regular, Beatrice was also there in 2022. The Princess did find herself in a tricky situation that year when her card was allegedly declined at a high-end food stall.

Princess Eugenie is also a seasoned festival-goer, having been spotted at Glastonbury in 2013 and 2016. Despite the wet weather on her second visit (above), Eugenie still seemed to enjoy herself.

While grabbing a bite to eat at thethe Michelin-starred Pony Bistro, it was widely reported that Beatrice’s card was declined three times.

Despite the short-lived embarrassment, she seem unperturbed and soon re-united with her husband among the other revellers.

Her sister Princess Eugenie is also a seasoned festival-goer, having been spotted at Glastonbury in 2013 and 2016.

Despite the wet weather on her second visit, Eugenie still seemed to enjoy herself.

She was photographed partying with friends in black-and-green wellies to combat the soggy conditions.

Cressida

Harry’s former girlfriend Cressida Bona has been to Glastonbury numerous times. In 2013, while she was dating Harry, Cressida was spotted tucking into a plate of chips.

The actress’s appearance at the festival sparked rumours at the time that her then beau might also turn up – and he then duly did.

The next year, fresh from her break-up with the Duke of Sussex, Cressida was once again spotted mingling with friends in the famous Somerset fields

Speaking at the time she said:’I’m staying with some friends who have pitched up a tent.’

Cressida might have regretted that decision after torrential rain turned the camping site into a 900-acre mud bath andthe festival was also plunged into silence for two hours after a lightning storm struck.
