has made a bold statement about using weight loss drugs while on her farewell tour, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
The pop icon, 71, told in an interview published Sunday, February 2, “I don’t want to wear a girdle and be squeezed like a sausage when I sing, and I won’t do the thing.”
“I’m a little fat for what I do,” she continued. “You see how thin everybody is now and the clothes aren’t made for big girls.”
The Times reporter wrote in the piece that the star looked “perfectly slim.” Lauper said that she relies on more traditional ways of dieting — such as not eating later than 6 pm. For their late lunch, Lauper ordered a potassium-rich borscht soup and traditional brown bread and butter caviar for the table.
The conversation kicked off with the ’80s pop star detailing how she managed to blend into her conservative Upper West Side neighborhood. “I always think with a little red lipstick you don’t even have to put on a lot of other make-up,” she said. “But when I wore it in 1988 they wouldn’t let me in the hotel because they thought I was a [sex worker].”
