Fans of singer are “divided” over her comments about the presidential election in November, according to the co-administrator of one of her biggest fan accounts.
The “Pink Pony Club” to at the presidential race in an interview in The Guardian published on Friday, September 20.
, and specifically not Democratic nominee, , saying: “there’s problems on both sides. …I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote.”
But some people took her lack of an active endorsement of Harris as an indirect way of supporting nominee, . So, Roan took to to clear the air on Tuesday.
She said she absolutely did not endorse Trump, but believed eligible voters had a responsibility to hold their representatives accountable. The comments on that video were switched off, but her opinions sparked a heated debate in other corners of social media.
Regalrumination.com contacted Roan’s representatives by email on Friday morning outside of office hours.
Some of Roan’s biggest supporters spoke to Regalrumination.com about watching her fanbase debate what she said.
“As a person who runs a Chappell Roan fan account, I can truly tell so many people are divided. There are a bunch of people that agree with her but there are also others that are taking what she says out of context,” said Indica Elizabeth. She runs one of the most popular Instagram fan accounts dedicated to Roan, @mykinkishq.
Elizabeth “immediately fell in love” when she first heard Roan’s music in 2020, and not only loved her style, but also “way she refuses to let anyone tell her how to be herself.”
Personally for Elizabeth, Roan’s comments in the interview and follow-up videos only solidified her decision as to how she would be voting on November 5.
“This year will be my first time being able to vote in the United States. Watching Chappell’s videos did nothing but make me even more sure of who I needed to vote for as a woman and as a student, and made me realize that even though I have a small voice I still have one,” Elizabeth said. “After watching her videos I got in touch with a local congressman to talk about the thing I found wrong on our area, and he reached back out to me and everything. Always remember to vote local and support your local officials that are actually good people.”
The Roan fan had some thoughts about people basing their voting choices on what a celebrity did.
“An endorsement from someone should not be what makes you decide on who to vote. Please, look into all of the candidates and read everything they are offering and saying. This election is so truly important, it can affect so many of our futures. Privilege has no place in elections but empathy does,” Elizabeth said.
