Burning Man’s emergency services personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive individual at 11:29 a.m. They immediately attempted life-saving measures but could not save the individual.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office deputies later arrived at the scene at 11:37 a.m. and confirmed the death of a female participant.
“It is with heavy hearts that Burning Man Project confirms the death of a participant in Black Rock City,” the Burning Man Project said in a news release. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this loss.”
The female has been identified by the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office, however, authorities are withholding the participant’s name and age until they notify her next of kin.
Officials are also investigating the and will determine the cause and manner following the autopsy.

The Burning Man Project acknowledged this news might be difficult for many in the community.
