Brian Litterell’s son is following in his dad’s footsteps as he has embarked on a music career — and fans are weighing in.
On Sunday, March 9, the Backstreet Boys member’s 22-year-old son Baylee appeared as a contestant on
When Baylee stood before the three judges — , Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan — he revealed who his dad was after Underwood quipped, “There’s something about you that looks familiar.”

Baylee chose to perform an original song that was met with positive feedback from the judges. The musical powerhouses then invited the “Shape of My Heart” musician, 50, into the room to sing with his son.
Most fans seemed to be wowed by Baylee’s audition, gushing about his talent in the comment section of American Idol’s post showcasing photos of the viral audition.
“Incredible!!!! And so good to see a little harmonizing with his dad!!🤩🤩,” an individual commented.
“Congratulations Baylee 👏 you sounded amazing! Musical talent definitely runs in the family 🔥,” someone else wrote.
A third person commented, “OMG! I enjoyed watching this❤️like father like son😍🙌.”
However, a few people stated they felt Baylee made it through just based on who his father is.
One person wrote, “✨nepotism✨ 😂😂😂😂.”
“The only thing is, how is it fair? His father is in a very popular band,” a separate person noted. “Well, these other people are coming on to come on and they’re from a waitress background or there another kid just starting to sing when this one has his father in the business and he’s already released albums.”
Baylee admitted it was daunting to pursue music because of his dad’s remarkable success in the business.
“I believe I get my voice from Dad, and hopefully, I can do him justice today. I guess you could say music runs in our family,” he told the camera before going in for his audition. “Following in my dad’s footsteps is scary because his career, to me, is one of the most extraordinary in music history. No one can ever compare.”
Brian spoke about his son before he went in for the audition, saying that while people think it’s easier to be born into this industry, it still comes with challenges.
“Obviously, growing up in the industry, a lot of people would look at that as a perk, but it’s not easy,” he remarked. “I’ve always told everybody that he’s 10 times more talented than I ever was.”
Baylee received a “yes” from all three judges so is headed to the next round.
