Beyoncé has revealed how she “did not want” daughter Blue Ivy Carter onstage during her Renaissance world tour, saying the 12-year-old “wanted it for herself.”
The tour followed her seventh solo studio album of the same name, which was dubbed an homage to club music. Beyoncé cited influences like ’70s hotspot Studio 54.
The singer’s eldest child caused a stir last year when she showed off her dance skills alongside her mother and backing dancers while on tour. The 43-year-old has now spoken about how it all came about and watching the youngster “grow” each night.
Regalrumination.com emailed a spokesperson for Beyoncé for comment on Tuesday.
In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Beyoncé discussed how Carter approached her role and how she only tours when her three children are not in school.
“Blue is an artist,” she stated. “She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter and actress.”
Beyoncé continued: “She has been creating characters since she was three. She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage.
“Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes.”
The “Daddy Lessons” singer—who also shares twins Rumi and Sir with rapper Jay-Z—told the publication that she builds her work schedule around her family. She explained that she has always wanted to travel with her family and introduce them to different languages and cultures, which is what she has achieved.
Beyoncé added: “My kids come with me everywhere I go. They come to my office after school, and they are in the studio with me. They are in dance rehearsals. It’s natural that they would learn my choreography.”
While the singer acknowledged that raising three kids isn’t easy, she said her twins are “God-sent” and parenting regularly teaches her new things about herself, which she loves.
Carter hasn’t only performed on the Renaissance tour, as the 12-year-old also during a performance at the grand reveal of the Atlantis The Royal, a hotel in Dubai, on January 21. Here, they gave the live performance debut of their song “Brown Skin Girl.”
Carter featured on the song from Beyoncé’s album The Lion King: The Gift, the soundtrack to the 2019 live-action remake of the classic animated film.
