Prince Harry‘s old hairdresser Sam McKnight – who was also a close friend of Princess Diana – has said he should get a hair transplant. 

Harry, 40, and his wife Meghan Markle, 43, have made headlines this week for their appearance at the Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler in Canada, putting on a series of loved-up displays. 

The couple have cheered on the athletes from the audience – in the first Games to incorporate winter sports – with Meghan due to fly home shortly to see their children Archie and Lilibet. 

However the Sussexes have gone viral for a rather surprising reason – as fans noticed Harry’s hair was looking rather sparse at the back. 

One tweet that went viral with nearly 30 million viewers simply posted a zoomed-in picture of the Prince’s head as he kissed Meghan, writing: ‘HELLOOOO?’ and appearing to pinpoint his thinning locks.  

A-list hairdresser Sam, who has also worked with the likes of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and used to cut the prince’s hair when he was a boy, has now shared some tips for Harry to his Instagram account, saying he needs to ‘sort himself out’. 

Sam recommended that Harry should either get a ‘good short clip’ at the barbers like his brother Prince William, or go for a hair transplant. 

He wrote: ‘It’s time Harry! Many moons ago, when you and your brother were young boys, you both had the most magnificent, thick healthy crowning glories, just like mum.

‘Many an afternoon was spent with me thinning and shaping the topiary! However, just like myself, the lush hedging is no more, a mere wisp or two of its former self.’

Sam said that following his advice would take ‘years off’ Harry’s ‘handsome face’. 

And since the prince now lives in Montecito, California, Sam said he’s now in each reach of ‘the best’ hair transplants in the business. 

He said: ‘All is not lost, however, a good short clip at the barbers (like your big brother has done recently) would look sharp and clean, and take years off that handsome face. 

‘If I were your age I’d go for a transplant, so much more natural these days, unlike the plug plants of yore. 

‘And no need for a quick EasyJet trip to Turkey, you’re in California where they have the best! So Harry, from one baldy to another, it’s time. As they say in Disneyland, “Let It Go. Sent from your old hairdresser, Sam, with love, a wink and a smile.’

Luckily, Harry and Meghan have been wrapping up for the Whistler winter by wearing beanie hats, meaning his hair has been spared criticism in recent days. 

Commenting further in a piece in the Telegraph, Sam said that Harry’s hair resembles that of a ‘newborn chick’ and looks like a ‘1950s geography teacher’. 

He added that he was surprised Meghan hadn’t suggested a hair transplant for her husband, and is sure that it would ‘rejuvenate’ him. 

Sam said: When I would cut his hair as a child, he just wanted to get it done and he couldn’t be bothered – probably like he is now. He was a little naughty one, very cute. And William liked his hair gel, but Harry, who was much younger, wasn’t interested.’

He continued: ‘Ultimately, for Harry, it’s whatever makes him happy, but I suspect he would really like it if he did something about it. And I bet his wife would really like it too. 

‘He’s funny and he’s naughty, still, the same naughty little boy, and he’s still got that. He should stop hanging onto the wisps of hair; it would be a big release for him, mentally.’

Prince Harry inherited his famous red hair from the Spencer side of his family, and it looks as though his children have the ginger gene, too.

However, he recently revealed that his three-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, has also been ‘blessed’ with her mother’s long, thick hair.

‘It won’t be long until Lili can sit on hers,’ he added at October’s WellChild awards in London, as reported in Hello! magazine. He noted that the Duchess of Sussex has also passed on her thick hair to their five-year-old son, Prince Archie.

The Duke of Sussex, meanwhile, has been through quite the journey with his own hair.

On his first day of nursery in 1987, he was pictured waving to cameras while clutching his school bag, with his strawberry blonde hair combed out of his eyes – but his look changed drastically after he moved to Eton in 1998, when his friends shaved it off. 

Back in 2010, Nicky Philipps unveiled a new portrait of Princes Harry and William chatting before a Trooping the Colour ceremony.

However, Harry admitted afterwards that he was not impressed with how the artist, who was paid £11,000 by the National Portrait Gallery for the commission, captured his hair.

He said: ‘I’m a little bit more ginger in there than I am in real life.’

Referring to Prince William, Harry added: ‘He got given more hair so, apart from that, it could have been worse.’

Prince Harry told The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last year that the red hair gene is strong in his family.

He said: ‘The Spencer gene is very, very strong. I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong!’

Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, have ginger hair, as does her brother Earl Spencer.

Harry also came under fire for his rather ‘scruffy’ appearance in the past, as fans begged him to get a haircut during a visit to New York. 

Posting on Twitter, one fan commented at the time: ‘I wish Harry would have a decent haircut, he always looks scruffy.’

‘I find Meghan’s dress sense very up and down, but she looked very elegant today and this was a good look for her.’

Meanwhile another wrote: ‘Harry’s looking thrilled again. Why does he always look crumpled and scruffy?’

A third added: ‘I think Harry’s largest offense is that haircut. Who’s he trying to fool?

‘Shave your head, dude, regardless of whatever you have to say, no one is going to take you seriously looking like a homeless clown.’

It comes after Prince Harry joked that he was going to get Meghan to sing to 1,000 people at the Invictus Games welcome celebration in Whistler – after their close friend Michael Buble serenaded the crowd.

The Duke of Sussex thanked the crowd for showing their support before dragging his wife on stage to help open the three days of events at the luxury ski resort, having enjoyed some beers together first.

As the crowd cheered, Meghan Markle, stylish in a white full length coat, black top and beanie hat, stood next to her husband who cheekily said: ‘Now she’s going to sing!’

Caught off guard, the Duchess shook her head laughing as the lively crowd whooped and clapped in a bid to persuade her to perform.

Moments earlier, Canadian pop star Buble had performed an impromptu version of his hit ‘Feeling Good’ after he was brought on to the stage to introduce Harry.

The Prince acknowledged the crowd, made up of those taking part in the games and holidaymakers, who were braving the freezing weather.

Prior to opening the games in the popular ski resort, he could be seen stamping his feet to keep warm as he and Meghan waited in a restaurant.

In his speech he gave a shout out to the Mayor of Whistler who he acknowledged was a ‘ginger’. Addressing the crowd Harry asked ‘Are there any other gingers in the house?’

 The opening ceremony concluded with a low fly past by two Canadian Airforce F/18 fighter jets.

Harry and Meghan are spending three days in Whistler watching competitors taking part in adaptive winter sports, including the skeleton and alpine skiing.

The Sussexes braved sub-zero temperatures to meet the UK team taking part in the Skeleton event.

Wrapped up against temperatures of -11C, they chatted with the competitors and their families by the side of the track.

Meghan wore a £1,000 white Mackage coat, Hattack Beanie and Sorrel boots during her walkabout in Whistler. 

She knelt down to chat with brothers Benjamin and Sebastian Evans having recognised the pair from the 2023 Games held in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The Duchess also gave their mother Rachel a warm hug and happily posed for photos with the boys and their father Mike who was a member of the UK skeleton team.

Skeleton is one of the winter sports staged in the Invictus Games. A competitor sliding sport rides a small sled, known as a skeleton, down a frozen track while lying face down.

Speeds of up to 60mph can be reached.

Harry and Meghan stood and watched the event but after posing for photos with spectators left for the warmth of their SUV cars.

It comes as the Sussexes continue their tour of Canda, having earlier thanked the people of the Squamish Valley.

In a post shared to her Instagram stories, Meghan uploaded several pictures and videos that showed people dancing in traditional Indigenous dress.

In one snap, the couple could be seen clapping in awe as a group holding instruments performed in front of them.

The mother-of-two then added overlaid text that read: ‘Thank you for welcoming us onto your sacred land.’

In another video shared to her stories, Meghan tagged The Chief Joe Mathias Centre in North Vancouver, BC, which is stated online as a centre which ‘serves as a community hub for cultural and educational events.’

It provides a space for gatherings, workshops, and programs that aim to celebrate and preserve Indigenous traditions and knowledge.

The pair had previously been in Vancouver for the seventh edition of the Invictus Games, which Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

But, on Sunday, the couple were slammed for riding in a golf buggy past disabled veterans at Invictus Games.   

The short video of the couple in a golf cart, which was shared to Meghan’s Instagram, caused a stir online with people calling the royal pair ‘desperate’ for driving past veterans, some who were wheelchair bound. 

In the clip, which has been shared widely online, the ‘able bodied’ couple can been seen driving past cheering veterans, who chanted ‘Harry’ as they drove past.

One person wrote: ‘So Meghan and Harry, two able-bodied people, are driven on a golf cart past disabled veterans.

‘Some of the veterans are wheelchair bound. They should have walked through the group, meeting, greeting and shaking hands. All with a camera following them. Unbelievable.’

Another said: ‘They drive along being taped by the cart behind them… with people being encouraged to yell out for them. When does this madness stop?’

Someone else wrote: ‘Who so being honored here? The veterans OR Harry and Meghan being honored by the veterans!’

This year’s games, which celebrate service men and women who put their lives on the line for their nations, will include winter sports for the first time ever.

Meghan’s attendance is understood to underscore her support for her husband and the mission of Invictus, a cause that is deeply personal to them both.

Her sole focus during these games will be to support her husband, the competitors and sharing their stories.

The Duke and Duchess spent three nights in the city of Vancouver before relocating to the ski resort of Whistler for the adaptive winter sports part of the games for wounded and disabled military veterans. 

She has packed on the PDA as they tour Canada, watching the games from the stands in Vancouver with her husband, snuggling into him before leaning in for a passionate kiss. 

The couple famously appeared in public together for the first time at the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017, pictured hand-in-hand at a wheelchair tennis event.
