Music fans have joked about trying to curate their style last minute so they seem cool when their Spotify Wrapped list comes out.

Every year the audio streaming giant releases insights into subscribers’ own musical tastes, according to their most listened songs, artists and genres. also crunches your data to compare it to wider listening trends.

It tends to get released in late November or December every year, and ahead of this people have been joking that they are changing their listening style last minute in order to appear more cool when their Wrapped drops.

Many Spotify subscribers shared how they were trying to hack the system in posts on X, formerly , by listening to certain songs over and over.

“Imagine hating me, a girl who is simply in her room trying to change the trajectory of her Spotify wrapped before it’s too late,” wrote @jennifermerr.

“That time of year I’m putting certain songs on repeat to hack my Spotify wrapped,” posted @marywana_.

“Spotify Wrapped comes out in a week and all I’m stressed about is which of the random songs I hyper fixated on for 2 days and completely abandoned afterwards will make it to my top 10,” wrote @Chiefkis.

Others joked they did not need to worry about hacks because they were confident in their music tastes.

“I have no reason to be embarrassed about my Spotify wrapped I enjoyed everything I listened to this year so I will just have to accept my fate ..” posted @lyricsyoumigh.

And @ju0nyah added: “Just realized Spotify Wrapped is coming soon… I have an amazing taste in music so I don’t need last minute changes.”

Bad News for the ‘Hackers’

For people hoping to change their Wrapped at the 11th hour, the bad news is that Spotify only collates your listening data from January 1 to October 31, meaning almost two months of people’s listening habits are not factored in.

Spotify explained its reasoning for this in a 2021 interview.

“The reason we have this hard cut-off is just for the sake of campaign logistics,” said Brendan Codey, associate director for Creator Growth and Programs at Spotify.

“We need to QA [quality assure] the site and we need to finalize assets for Wrapped, all of which takes a while. You throw Thanksgiving into the mix as well and we have even less time.”

When Is Spotify Wrapped 2024 Happening?

Spotify has not revealed the release date of the latest Spotify wrapped, simply telling subscribers: “Your listening highlights, and more. Keep playing what you love, and we’ll get in touch when it’s ready.”

The , and in 2022 it was released on November 30. Over two years before that, Spotify dropped Wrapped in December, on December 5 and 6.
